Question

I am currently developing a gel formulation and have a texture issue. I want it to be light but more viscous. I would like to know if Snail Resin (the very stretchy type) can function as a thickener and provide a smooth texture. Also, does it have the same active properties as Snail Secretion? Thank you.

Answer

Snail Resin vs. Snail Secretion in Gel Formulations

Based on the product information, Snail Resin (such as Snail Resin (PEG-90M) and Snail Resin (PEG-160M Ultra Stretch)) is specifically designed to function as a thickener and provide a stretchy, smooth texture to formulations like gels and creams. The "very stretchy type" (PEG-160M) is ideal for achieving that particular feel you are looking for - light yet viscous with a smooth texture.

However, Snail Resin does not have the same active properties as Snail Secretion. Snail Secretion (and The Real Snail™) contains beneficial components like Allantoin, Collagen, Elastin, Glycolic Acid, and peptides that offer skin benefits such as moisturizing, irritation reduction, and promoting skin regeneration. The product description for Snail Secretion explicitly states that it does not create the stretchy texture; that function is provided by Snail Resin.

Therefore, you can use Snail Resin to achieve the desired light, viscous, and smooth/stretchy texture in your gel, but you would need to add Snail Secretion separately if you also want the skin-benefiting active properties.
