คำถาม

I am trying to formulate a water-based hair tonic/scalp spray and want to add Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate). I have tried adding it directly and also using Tween 20, but the Vitamin E separates from the water base.

Could you please advise on the correct method and suitable ingredients to incorporate Vitamin E stably into a water-based formula like a hair tonic or scalp spray?

คำตอบ

Your issue with Vitamin E separating in your water-based spray is because Vitamin E is oil-soluble and doesn't readily mix with water. While Tween 20 is a surfactant, the concentration and method used were not enough to keep the Vitamin E stably dispersed or emulsified in your formula.

A more effective approach is to use a dedicated solubilizer or dispersant like Flora Solve or Flora Solve Clear. These ingredients are specifically designed to help oil-soluble substances integrate into water-based formulas.

The recommended method is:

  1. Mix the Vitamin E with Flora Solve (or Flora Solve Clear) at a ratio of 1 part Vitamin E to 3 parts Flora Solve.
  2. Ensure the mixture is clear and homogeneous.
  3. Slowly add this pre-mixture to your main water-based component while stirring or mixing well.

This pre-dispersion step using Flora Solve helps to properly incorporate the Vitamin E into the water phase, preventing it from separating over time and resulting in a stable, clear or uniformly dispersed product.
