Question

When Zinc Ricinoleate is dissolved in oil and cools down, does it solidify like wax? Are there other ingredients that can be used as an alternative to this substance for eliminating body odor?

Answer

Zinc Ricinoleate Consistency and Alternatives

Regarding Zinc Ricinoleate, while the pure form is described as a waxy solid, the product available is a 30% solution which is a yellow liquid. This solution is dispersible in water.

If you are looking for alternative ingredients to help eliminate body odor, there are several options available that work through different mechanisms:

  • Odor-Kill™: An ingredient designed to absorb odors.
  • Clean-n-Cool™: Provides intimate cooling and odor absorption.
  • Citromask™: A natural deodorizer.
  • CycloSorb™ Clear: A water-soluble ingredient for odor absorption.
  • SugarClean™: A deodorizer derived from sugarcane extract.
  • Odor-Kill DO™: Contains Octenidine HCl, which acts as a deodorant.

These alternatives offer various properties and can be used in different formulation types depending on your needs.

This section was added after reviewing the original answer against current product availability and formulation knowledge at the stated point in time.

Update as of 2026-05-31: The earlier note about Zinc Ricinoleate being available as a 30% yellow liquid still applies to Zinc Ricinoleate A30, but the current catalog now also includes other forms such as Zinc Ricinoleate Pellet, GP25, ZR-LD and CW90E. Therefore, the final texture depends on which grade is used and the formula base. The pellet grade is a solid/pellet form; when dispersed or melted into an oil/wax system and cooled, it may add some structure, but at normal deodorant-use levels it should not be assumed to turn the whole formula into a wax unless the rest of the formula also contains structuring waxes or high solids. Liquid grades are generally chosen when easier incorporation into water/glycol/surfactant systems is needed.

For odor-control alternatives, the current catalog also includes options beyond the original list, such as CycloSorb™ Cream for non-water-soluble cream/roll-on systems, CleanTea™ Liquid, and DeoEco™ for broad odor neutralization in water-based or cleansing formulas. When using Odor-Kill™ or CycloSorb™ types, check perfume compatibility because these materials can also absorb or reduce fragrance impact.
