Incorporating Alpha Arbutin and AHA in Bar Soap

Based on the properties and recommended usage of Alpha Arbutin and AHA (such as Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid), these ingredients are generally not suitable for incorporation into traditional bar soap formulations.

Here's why:

• Temperature Sensitivity: Alpha Arbutin requires mixing at temperatures below 30°C. Glycolic Acid should avoid temperatures above 60°C. Bar soap making processes (hot process, cold process, or even melt-and-pour) typically involve temperatures significantly higher than these limits, which can degrade the active ingredients.
• pH Sensitivity: Alpha Arbutin is stable in a pH range of 3.5-6.5 and can break down into hydroquinone at pH levels higher than 8. AHA ingredients like Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are most effective at a pH of 4.0 or lower (ideally around 3.5). Traditional bar soap has a naturally high alkaline pH, typically ranging from 9 to 10. This high pH is incompatible with the stability and efficacy requirements of both Alpha Arbutin and AHA.

Adding Alpha Arbutin or AHA to a bar soap base at high temperatures or incorporating them into the final high-pH soap product would likely render them ineffective or potentially cause them to break down into undesirable substances (in the case of Alpha Arbutin).

Alternative Formulations:

If you wish to use Alpha Arbutin and AHA in a cleansing product, consider formulating a liquid cleanser or a syndet bar (synthetic detergent bar). These types of formulations can be created with a lower, skin-friendly pH that is compatible with the stability and efficacy of Alpha Arbutin and AHA.
