Question

How can I increase the foam in a melt-and-pour glycerin soap base? What ingredients are recommended, and what percentage should I use?

Answer

Regarding increasing foam in melt-and-pour glycerin soap base:

Based on the previous advice, you can add surfactants to increase foam. For solid soap bases like yours, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) were suggested as effective and cost-efficient options for generating significant foam. While these can be potentially harsh, the previous response noted that they might not add significant irritation beyond the inherent alkalinity of the glycerin soap base itself, and many people tolerate them well.

However, please note that our company does not sell SLS or SLES. You would need to source these ingredients from other suppliers.

Other surfactants like Creamy Foamer (Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate) or Coco-Foam™ (Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine) were also mentioned, but they are typically used in liquid formulations and may be more expensive, making SLS/SLES a more practical choice for solid soap bases according to the previous advice.

Regarding the proportion to use, the previous information did not specify the exact percentage of surfactant to add to the melt-and-pour base. You would likely need to research recommended usage rates for SLS or SLES in solid soap bases from other sources or perform small-scale tests to find the desired level of foam, keeping in mind the potential impact on the soap's hardness and clarity.
