Question
When adding fragrance oil to a gel made with Any Gel, what is needed and at what step should it be added?
Answer
Adding Fragrance Oil to AnyGel™ Gel
To add fragrance oil to a gel made with AnyGel™, you will need a solubilizer. Fragrance oils are oil-based and will not mix directly into a water-based gel like AnyGel™ without one.
What you need:
- Fragrance oil
- A suitable solubilizer (e.g., Polysorbate 20, Polysorbate 80, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil)
- Your prepared AnyGel™ gel
Steps:
- In a separate container, mix the fragrance oil with the solubilizer. The ratio of solubilizer to fragrance oil can vary depending on the specific fragrance, but a common starting point is a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio (solubilizer:fragrance). You may need to use a higher ratio (e.g., 5:1 or more) to achieve a clear solution.
- Stir this mixture well until the fragrance oil is fully dispersed in the solubilizer.
- Slowly add the solubilized fragrance mixture to your finished AnyGel™ gel. Add it during the final step of your formulation, after the gel has fully formed.
- Gently stir the gel to incorporate the fragrance mixture evenly. Avoid vigorous mixing, which can introduce air bubbles.
Using a solubilizer ensures that the fragrance oil remains evenly dispersed throughout the gel and prevents cloudiness or separation.
