Question
I have liquid Alcohol with 70% concentration but dislike the smell. If I add Fragrance or Essential Oil to make it fragrant, will it affect the concentration of the alcohol? Do you have any Fragrance or Essential Oil recommendations?
Answer
Adding Fragrance to 70% Alcohol
Yes, adding fragrance oil or essential oil to 70% alcohol will reduce the overall alcohol concentration. This is because you are adding other substances (the oil) to the solution, effectively diluting the alcohol.
The extent to which the concentration decreases depends on the amount of fragrance or essential oil you add.
- Adding a small amount (e.g., a few drops per 100ml) to simply adjust the scent is unlikely to significantly impact the alcohol's efficacy for disinfection purposes.
- Adding a larger amount will reduce the alcohol concentration more substantially, potentially affecting its effectiveness.
If you wish to add a scent, use a very small amount.
Here are some fragrance oils and essential oils you might consider, based on common preferences:
- Fragrance Oils:
- Neroli Fragrance Oil
- Jasmine Fragrance Oil
- Strawberry (Fragrance Oil)
- Essential Oils:
- Holy Basil Oil
- Honeysuckle Oil
Choose a scent you like and add it sparingly.
