Adding Heat-Sensitive Ingredients to Hot Process Cream
Question
I would like to ask, in a formulation containing an extract that cannot withstand heat above 40°C, such as Ectoin, but the formula uses a hot process for emulsification with Sensitive Cream Maker, can I dissolve Ectoin separately in water and add it later to avoid exposure to the heat from the cream emulsification step at 70-80°C?
Answer
Yes, the method you described is correct.
Ingredients or extracts that are not stable at temperatures above 40°C should be added to the formulation during the cooling phase, after the hot emulsification process is complete (typically when the temperature drops below 40°C).
Dissolving Ectoin in a portion of the water phase or a small amount of water and then adding it to the cooled cream base will prevent Ectoin from being exposed to the high temperatures (70-80°C) required for emulsification with Sensitive Cream Maker. This method helps preserve the full efficacy of Ectoin.
