Adding Ingredients to BHA Toner Tester and Using Safflower Oil as Cleanser
Question
I would like to add the following ingredients to the 120g Timed-Released BHA Toner tester:
- Glucosamine 4%
- B3 5%
- B5 5%
Is this possible? Also, can NaturalProfile™ Safflower Seed Oil be used as a pure cleansing oil? Please advise.
Answer
Adding Ingredients to Timed-Released BHA Toner Tester
Based on the composition of the Timed-Released BHA Toner tester, which is primarily water, you can directly add the following ingredients without needing to dissolve them in water or heat them first:
- GlucoBright™ (Acetyl Glucosamine) 4%
- Safe-B3™ or Extreme-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide) 5%
- Panthenol or D-Panthenol Care (Vitamin B5) 5%
These ingredients are water-soluble and will incorporate directly into the tester.
Regarding the quantity of the tester (120g), you do not need to reduce the amount. The percentages you mentioned (4%, 5%, 5%) are based on the total weight of the final formula. You would calculate the weight of each ingredient needed for 120g of the tester and add that amount.
For example, to add 4% GlucoBright™ to 120g of tester, you would add 0.04 * 120g = 4.8g of GlucoBright™. Similarly, for 5% Vitamin B3, you would add 0.05 * 120g = 6g, and for 5% Vitamin B5, you would add 0.05 * 120g = 6g.
Important Note on Vitamin B5: The staff recommends starting with a lower concentration of Vitamin B5, such as 2%, because 5% might feel slightly sticky on the skin. If you choose to start with 2% Vitamin B5, you would add 0.02 * 120g = 2.4g.
It is generally recommended to add ingredients one by one, ensuring each is fully mixed before adding the next.
Safflower Seed Oil as Cleanser
For skin prone to clogged pores, it is advised to avoid using oils, including NaturalProfile™ Safflower Seed Oil, as a pure cleanser. Even oils generally considered non-comedogenic can potentially clog pores for individuals with this skin type. A gentle face wash is recommended instead.
