Adding Magnesium Sulfate to Serum for Stability

Question

When formulating a serum, specifically when adding magnesium sulfate 1% at the final step, I have the following questions regarding its incorporation:

  • Is it necessary to dissolve the magnesium sulfate in a small amount of water before adding it to the serum?
  • Alternatively, can magnesium sulfate flakes be added directly into the serum while stirring at 800RPM for 5 minutes?
  • If the flakes are added directly without pre-dissolving in water, can full solubility with the serum and a stable product be expected?

Answer

When adding 1% Magnesium Sulfate to your serum, particularly with our Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye), you can add the magnesium sulfate directly to the serum in the final step of your formulation. It is recommended to blend it until fully dissolved and combined with the formula. This method helps to increase the stability of the formula and prevent layer separation.

You can expect full solubility and a stable product when following this method, as the Silky Serum Base is designed to accommodate the direct addition of Magnesium Sulfate for enhanced stability.
