Question

I have a serum formula targeting acne, redness, and dark spots, which currently contains Encapsulated Salicylic Acid (BHA). I want to add Pepha®-Tight to also provide a lifting and firming effect.

My questions are:

  1. Can Pepha®-Tight be added to this formula?
  2. Is the Algae Extract component within Pepha®-Tight comedogenic and suitable for acne-prone skin?

Answer

Regarding your questions about adding Pepha®-Tight to your formula:

  1. Can Pepha®-Tight be added? Yes, based on the pH compatibility discussed earlier. Encapsulated Salicylic Acid works best around pH 4-5, and Pepha®-Tight has a recommended pH range of 4.5-5.5. This overlap suggests that Pepha®-Tight can likely be incorporated without significantly disrupting the effectiveness of the BHA or itself, provided the final formula's pH is maintained within this range.
  2. Is Algae Extract in Pepha®-Tight comedogenic? As clarified by the staff, the specific Algae Extract used in Pepha®-Tight is not comedogenic and should be suitable for acne-prone skin.

Therefore, based on the information available, adding Pepha®-Tight appears feasible for your formula targeting acne, redness, dark spots, and now lifting/firming. However, it is always recommended to test the final formulation's pH and observe your skin's reaction.
