Can Snail Secretion be added to glycerin soap bars? Is a solvent required?
Answer
Adding Snail Secretion to Glycerin Soap Bars
Yes, Snail Secretion can be added to glycerin soap bars.
Both the liquid Snail Secretion extract and The Real Snail™ (freeze-dried snail secretion) are water-soluble and can be incorporated into water-based formulations like glycerin soap.
Important Considerations:
- Temperature: Snail Secretion is sensitive to heat. To preserve its beneficial properties, add it to the melted glycerin soap base only after the base has cooled down significantly, ideally below 40°C (104°F), but while it is still liquid enough to mix thoroughly.
- Solvent/Dispersion: While Snail Secretion is water-soluble and glycerin soap bases contain water and glycerin, pre-dissolving The Real Snail™ powder in a small amount of water or glycerin before adding it to the cooled soap base is recommended to ensure even dispersion and prevent clumping. The liquid Snail Secretion extract can typically be added directly to the cooled base.
Adding Snail Secretion can provide skin-protective, moisturizing, and anti-irritation benefits to your soap.
