Adding Titanium Dioxide Nano to Sunscreen Formula for High SPF

Question

Hello,

I am wondering how to add Titanium Dioxide Nano into the following sunscreen formula:

  • OMC 33%
  • DHHB 22%
  • Oxybenzone 22%
  • Zinc Oxide 200nm 15%
  • Octocrylene 8%

Where should I add it? Or can I add it to this existing formula? And how many % should I add to reach a level of SPF 75-100?

(Reference: SPF Protect Ultra™ product description mentions that adding Titanium Dioxide Nano can easily boost SPF to a level of 75-100.)

Answer

Adding Titanium Dioxide Nano to Your Sunscreen Formula

Your current sunscreen formula already totals 100% with the following ingredients:

  • OMC: 33%
  • DHHB: 22%
  • Oxybenzone: 22%
  • Zinc Oxide 200nm: 15%
  • Octocrylene: 8%

To add Titanium Dioxide Nano, you will need to reduce the percentage of one or more of the other ingredients to keep the total percentage at 100%. You cannot simply add Titanium Dioxide Nano on top of the existing 100% formula.

The typical usage rate for Titanium Dioxide 200nm EasyDisperse™ is 1-25%. You can start by incorporating a percentage within this range and adjust the other ingredients accordingly.

Determining the exact percentage of Titanium Dioxide Nano needed to reach an SPF of 75-100 is complex and depends on the entire formulation, including the other UV filters and excipients. It is recommended to perform testing to confirm the final SPF value after adjusting the formula.
