Question

I have a gel formulation with the following ingredients:

  • Double Hyaluronic (Hyaluron) Gel
  • Whitening: Glucosamine (N-acetyl-D) 4%
  • Whitening: Nanowhite 5%
  • Moisturizing: Bio-Yeast Essence 1%
  • Anti-Aging/Anti-Acne: Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) 3%
  • Anti-Aging: Gotu Kola (Centella Asiatica) Extract 5%
  • Anti-Aging: Argireline 10%
  • Anti-Aging: REGU®-AGE สำหรับรอบดวงตา 5%
  • Preservative: Phenoxyethanol

If this gel is intended for use around the eyes, can I add Tranexamic Acid 4% to the formulation?

Answer

Adding Tranexamic Acid to Your Eye Gel

Based on the information available for Tranexamic Acid (Trans-White™), it is not recommended to use this ingredient around the eyes or lips.

Additionally, the regulatory limit for Tranexamic Acid in cosmetics in Thailand and ASEAN countries is no more than 3% for skin brightening purposes. Using 4% would exceed this limit for cosmetic registration. If a formula contains more than 5%, it must be registered as a medicine for treating melasma.

Therefore, adding 4% Tranexamic Acid to your gel formulation is not advisable, especially for use in the eye area, due to both safety recommendations and regulatory restrictions.
