Adjusting Cream Formula for Brightening, Moisture, and Texture
Question
Based on a previous cream formula that resulted in dry, tight skin and a temporary warming sensation (which disappeared), how can the formula be adjusted to focus on skin brightening, moisture, and smoothness?
Specifically, what adjustments or additions are needed to the formulation to achieve these goals?
Additionally, what ingredient should be used to adjust the fragrance?
Answer
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback on the formula. The temporary warming sensation you experienced is likely not a cause for concern if it disappears quickly. However, the feeling of dryness and tightness suggests the formula needs adjustment to provide more moisture and a smoother feel.
Based on your goal for bright, moisturized, and smooth skin, and considering your normal skin type, we can adjust the formula proposed by C7 by adding an emollient like Dimethicone and slightly increasing a moisturizing ingredient like MOIST24. This should help improve the skin feel and hydration without making the cream too heavy.
Here is a suggested adjusted formula:
- Safe-B3 (Niacinamide): 5%
- GlucoBright (N-Acetyl Glucosamine): 4%
- Alpha-Arbutin: 2%
- Activated Resorcinol: 1%
- MSH White Absorb™: 5%
- Vitamin B5 (Panthenol): 2%
- Double Hyaluron Liquid: 1%
- MOIST24: 7% (Increased)
- Bisabolol: 1%
- Dimethicone: 3% (Added)
- Light Cream Maker: 1%
- Phenoxyethanol SA (Preservative): 1%
- Water: remaining (approx. 67%)
Mixing Instructions:
- Combine all water-soluble ingredients (Safe-B3, GlucoBright, Alpha-Arbutin, Vitamin B5, Double Hyaluron Liquid, MOIST24, Bisabolol, and Water) in a container and stir until fully dissolved or dispersed.
- In a separate container, combine the oil-soluble ingredients (Dimethicone and Light Cream Maker) and mix until uniform.
- Slowly add the oil phase to the water phase while continuously stirring or using a homogenizer/stick blender until a smooth, uniform cream is formed.
- Once the cream is formed and the temperature is below 60°C, add the preservative (Phenoxyethanol SA) and mix well. Check and adjust the pH if necessary (should be no more than 6.0).
- If you wish to add fragrance, add it in this final step along with the preservative and mix thoroughly.
This adjusted formula aims to provide effective brightening while enhancing the moisturizing and smoothing properties to better suit your needs.
Thank you.
