Alcohol-Free Perfume Spray Formulation and Texture Issues
Question
I am trying to create an alcohol-free perfume spray. I made a mixture of 30% น้ำหอม and 70% Flora Solve Clear, but the resulting mixture is too thick to be used as a spray.
- Why is my current mixture (30% น้ำหอม, 70% Flora Solve Clear) too thick for spraying?
- Can this existing batch be adjusted to be sprayable?
- What are the recommended formulations for a sprayable alcohol-free perfume using Flora Solve Clear or other suitable ingredients?
Answer
Alcohol-Free Perfume Spray Formulation
You're experiencing a common issue when making alcohol-free perfume sprays with a high concentration of fragrance and solubilizer.
Regarding Your Existing Batch
Your current mixture of 30% fragrance and 70% Flora Solve Clear is too thick to be used as a spray. While the ratio of Flora Solve Clear to fragrance (approximately 2.3:1) is within the range recommended for dissolving the fragrance, the total concentration of these ingredients is too high for a sprayable liquid.
This batch cannot be easily adjusted to be sprayable. However, as suggested by the staff, you can save this mixture and use it as an additive in other cosmetic formulations where a thicker consistency is acceptable.
For a New Batch
To create an alcohol-free perfume that is suitable for spraying, you need to use a lower concentration of fragrance and Flora Solve Clear in the final mixture.
Here is a suggested starting formula for a sprayable alcohol-free perfume using Flora Solve Clear:
- Fragrance: 10%
- Flora Solve Clear: 20%
- Water: 70%
Mixing Instructions:
- Combine the Fragrance and Flora Solve Clear and stir or blend well until the fragrance is fully dissolved.
- Slowly add the Water to the mixture while stirring continuously until a clear, uniform liquid is formed.
This formula uses a 2:1 ratio of Flora Solve Clear to fragrance, which is within the recommended range for dissolving, and the lower total concentration should result in a sprayable viscosity.
Alternatively, as suggested by the staff, you could create a water-in-oil emulsion using Oil Blender. A possible formula is:
- Oil Blender: 4%
- Fragrance: 30%
- Water: 66%
Mixing Instructions for Oil Blender Formula:
- Combine Oil Blender and Fragrance (Oil Phase).
- In a separate container, prepare the Water phase.
- Using high-speed mixing, slowly add the Water phase to the Oil Phase while continuously mixing until the emulsion is formed.
Please note that the formula using Oil Blender will result in a cloudy product, unlike the clear solution you would get with Flora Solve Clear at a lower concentration. Choose the method that best suits your desired product appearance.
