Alternative Emollients and Peptide Ratios in Anti-Aging Gel

Question

I am formulating a gel with DMAE Liquid (20%) and Syn-Coll (3%). I have two questions:

  1. If I don't use silicone emollients, are there other options? Can I use natural oils at 2-3% instead?
  2. If I include Argireline in the formula along with DMAE Liquid (20%) and Syn-Coll (3%), what should be the recommended percentages for Argireline and DMAE?

Subject: Re: DMAE Tightening Gel

Hello,

Regarding your question about the percentages of Argireline and DMAE in a formula combining Argireline, DMAE Liquid (20%), and Syn-Coll 3%:

Argireline and DMAE work differently. Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) helps reduce expression lines by relaxing facial muscles, similar to the effect of Botox. DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol) works to provide skin firmness and tightening.

Using DMAE Liquid at 20% concentration is already considered a high and effective level for skin tightening. While it is possible to combine Argireline with DMAE and Syn-Coll, the staff did not provide a specific recommended percentage for Argireline when used in combination with 20% DMAE Liquid. You can consider adding Argireline based on its typical usage rates, but note that it addresses a different concern (expression lines) than DMAE (tightening).

Regarding using natural oils as emollients to reduce stickiness instead of silicones: Natural oils are generally not as lightweight as synthetic emollients like LipidSoft Lite or silicones (Cyclomethicone, SiliSilk) and may not be as effective in reducing the stickiness caused by high concentrations of water-soluble ingredients like DMAE. The staff recommended trying Pro Polymer Silk as a thickener first, as it provides a lighter feel than regular Pro Polymer and can help reduce initial stickiness. If further reduction is needed, a lightweight synthetic emollient like LipidSoft Lite is suggested over natural oils.

Thank you.
