Alternative Preservative for Mild Preserved Eco™
Question
I am looking for an alternative preservative for Mild Preserved Eco™ (Ethylhexylglycerin) as it is currently out of stock. Can you suggest other suitable options?
Answer
Alternative Preservatives for Your Formula
You're looking for an alternative to Mild Preserved Eco™ as it's currently out of stock. Mild Preserved Eco™ is a gentle preservative blend of Ethylhexylglycerin and Propanediol, effective in formulas with a pH between 4 and 9.
Based on the properties and availability, here are a couple of suitable alternatives you could consider:
- Mild Preserved™ COS: This is a broad-spectrum, water-soluble preservative blend (Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, and Caprylyl Glycol) that works in a wide pH range of 2-8. It's odorless and effective against bacteria, mold, and yeast. Note that it should be added when the formula temperature is below 45°C.
- NaturePreserve™ LB2: This is a broad-spectrum, water-soluble preservative blend (Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, and Water) with a natural origin. It is effective at low pH values (2.0-6.5). It should be added when the formula temperature is below 50°C.
Both Mild Preserved™ COS and NaturePreserve™ LB2 offer broad-spectrum protection and are water-soluble, making them suitable alternatives to Mild Preserved Eco™ in many formulations, provided the pH and temperature requirements are met. Mild Preserved™ COS has a slightly wider pH range suitable for typical cosmetic formulas.
Remember to always perform a challenge test on your final formula to ensure the chosen preservative system is effective.
