Question

I have mixed skin with concerns about acne scars, melasma, dullness, and lack of moisture. I have developed the following formula:

  • Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) 4%
  • Double Hyaluron Liquid 1%
  • Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) 1%
  • L-Carnitine 3%
  • Tranexamic Acid (Trans-White™) 3%
  • Ethoxydiglycol 5%
  • Flora Solve Clear 1%
  • Pitera 50%
  • Pro Polymer 1%
  • Water 31%

I have a few questions about this formula:

  1. Can this formula be made?
  2. If I use Pitera 50% and the rest is water, do I need to add preservative?
  3. If I use Pitera for the rest of the formula (meaning Pitera is the main component), do I need to add Pro Polymer?

Answer

Subject: Analysis of Essence/Gel Formula

Hello,

Regarding the second formula you provided for mixed skin with concerns about acne scars, melasma, dullness, and lack of moisture:

  • Formula:
    • Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) 4%
    • Double Hyaluron Liquid 1%
    • Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) 1%
    • L-Carnitine 3%
    • Tranexamic Acid (Trans-White™) 3%
    • Ethoxydiglycol 5%
    • Flora Solve Clear 1%
    • Pitera 50%
    • Pro Polymer 1%
    • Water 31%
  1. Can this formula be made?
Yes, this formula can be mixed.

  2. If I use Pitera 50% and the rest is water, do I need to add preservative?
Yes, you should add a suitable preservative. As the staff mentioned, the 50% Pitera already contains preservative, but the remaining 50% of the formula (which includes water and other ingredients) needs preservation. You should add preservative at a concentration suitable for the unpreserved portion, or at least 1% of the water content.

  3. If I use Pitera for the rest of the formula (meaning Pitera is the main component), do I need to add Pro Polymer?
Adding Pro Polymer depends on the desired texture. Pro Polymer is a gelling agent used to create a gel consistency. It is not related to the amount of Pitera used. If you want the formula to be a gel/essence-gel, include Pro Polymer. If you prefer a more liquid essence texture, you can omit it.

  • How the ingredients address your skin concerns:
This formula includes several ingredients that target your stated concerns:
    • Acne Scars & Dullness: Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) and Tranexamic Acid are known for their brightening properties, helping to reduce the appearance of dark spots, acne scars, and overall skin dullness.
    • Melasma: Tranexamic Acid is specifically used to help reduce the appearance of melasma and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin B3 also contributes to improving overall skin tone.
    • Lack of Moisture: Double Hyaluron Liquid and Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) are excellent humectants and moisturizers, helping to hydrate the skin and improve its barrier function, addressing dryness.
    • Mixed Skin: Vitamin B3 and L-Carnitine can help regulate oil production and improve the appearance of pores, which is beneficial for mixed skin types that may have oily areas.
    • Overall Skin Health: Pitera is known for improving skin texture, clarity, and overall vitality.
