Question
I would like to formulate an antiperspirant/deodorant spray using the following ingredients. Could you provide a suitable formulation and suggest a preservative substitute for Geogard?
Ingredients:
- Anti-Sweat™ (Aluminum Chlorohydrate) 20%
- Willow Bark Extract (Natural Salicylic Acid) 1-2%
- Safe-B3 (Vitamin B3) 2-3%
- Preservative (e.g., Geogard)
- Deionized Water
Answer
Based on the ingredients you provided and the suggestions from our staff, here is a possible formulation for an antiperspirant/deodorant spray:
- Anti-Sweat™ (Aluminum Chlorohydrate): 20%
- Willow Bark Extract (Natural Salicylic Acid): 1-2%
- Safe-B3 (Vitamin B3): 2-3%
- Phenoxyethanol SA (Substitute for Geogard): 0.5-1.0%
- Deionized Water: Add to make up 100%
Mixing Instructions:
- Measure the required amount of Deionized Water.
- Add each ingredient one by one to the water, stirring or shaking well after each addition until fully dissolved.
- Ensure all ingredients are completely dissolved before packaging.
Regarding a substitute for Geogard, our staff suggested using Phenoxyethanol SA at a concentration of 0.5-1.0%.
