Question

Is Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1) no longer available for sale at the store?

Answer

Regarding gels labeled "Aloe Vera 99%" or "100%":

  • 100% is generally not possible in practice because preservatives are needed. Products claiming 100% may have issues with FDA approval or misleading labeling.
  • 99% is difficult but possible. If the product is a gel texture and only lists aloe vera and a preservative, it's likely misleading (unless it's a liquid).
  • Regarding dilution: Whether it's extract diluted with water or liquid aloe vera, the FDA doesn't specify.
  • Regarding the concentration equivalence: If you are using a 10:1 Aloe Vera Extract, then using 3% is equivalent to 30% aloe vera, and using 9% would be equivalent to 90%.
  • However, for formulating your own products, it's important not to focus solely on a high percentage of aloe vera. A well-rounded formula with other beneficial ingredients (like Vitamins B3, B5, or E) is often much more effective than a product that is just high-percentage aloe vera. Skin, like the body, needs a variety of nutrients.
