Recommendations for Baby Skin Oil and Liquid Soap Ingredients for a 1-Year-Old

For a 1-year-old baby's skin, especially when sleeping in an air-conditioned room which can cause dryness, we recommend using oils that provide moisture and are gentle on the skin. Several types are suitable:

• Babassu Oil: A natural oil that absorbs quickly, helps moisturize the skin, suitable for dry skin.
• Kukui Nut Oil: Contains Vitamins A, C, E, helps nourish and provides long-lasting moisture, absorbs quickly, not sticky, suitable for dry and sensitive skin.
• Marula Oil: Lightweight texture, absorbs well, highly moisturizing, rich in fatty acids and antioxidants.
• Tea Seed Oil: High in Oleic Acid, nourishes skin well, medium weight, easily absorbed.
• BAOBAB OIL: Good for nourishing dry skin, contains vitamins and sterols.
• Vegetable Vaseline: A mixture of natural triglycerides, has a texture similar to petroleum jelly but is 100% natural, helps create a barrier to prevent moisture loss.
• Glycerin: Can be mixed into skincare products to help retain moisture well (not suitable for applying directly).

The choice of oil depends on the desired texture and additional benefits. For fast absorption and nourishment, Kukui Nut Oil or Marula Oil might be preferred. For a good protective barrier, Vegetable Vaseline or Babassu Oil could be chosen.

For a liquid soap for a 1-year-old baby that can be used for both hair and body, it is important to choose very gentle surfactants that do not irritate the eyes. The easiest method is to use a gentle baby soap base specifically designed for this purpose, such as:

• Sulfate Free No-Tear Foaming Base: A liquid soap base designed to be "no-tear", has a skin-friendly pH, produces good foam, and is easy to thicken. Recommended for use at 20-25% concentration in baby formulas.
• Sulfate Free No-Tear Shampoo Base: Similar to the above, a shampoo/liquid soap base that is "no-tear" and produces good foam. Recommended for use at 25% concentration in baby formulas.

If you prefer to formulate from scratch, you can use very gentle surfactants like:

• Mild-Wash L™ or Mild-Wash C™: These are very gentle Amphoteric surfactants that are naturally biodegradable, suitable for baby products, but require pH adjustment.
• BabyFoam™: A gentle Anionic surfactant that produces good foam, suitable for baby products, but is a powder and may require solubilizers or suitable thickeners.
• Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate: An amino acid-derived surfactant that moisturizes the skin and provides abundant lather.

When making liquid soap, you can add about 1-5% Glycerin to help moisturize the skin and use a thickener compatible with the chosen surfactant, such as SugarThick™ or EasyThick™ (pre-made bases often do not require additional thickeners or only a small amount as recommended for the specific base).

We recommend starting with a pre-made baby base as it is the easiest approach. Simply mix the base with purified water and a preservative (if desired) to get a gentle and safe liquid soap for your baby.
