Question
What is a basic formula for body massage oil, and what carrier oils are recommended for use?
Answer
Basic Body Massage Oil Formula
Making body massage oil is simple and primarily uses a carrier oil as the main ingredient. Carrier oils help lubricate the skin for smooth massage and also provide skin nourishment.
You can choose from various carrier oils, such as:
- NaturalProfile™ Sweet Almond Oil: A popular choice for massage, suitable for all skin types. It absorbs well, is rich in Vitamin E, helps moisturize the skin, and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots.
- Mineral Oil: Provides excellent skin softness and smoothness. It does not clog pores, is non-irritating, and has high stability with a long shelf life. It comes in different viscosity grades like Very Light (5cst) or Very Light (15cst).
- Fractionated Coconut Oil Gel: A clear gel base derived from coconut oil, suitable for those who prefer a gel texture. It can be mixed with other oils or skincare ingredients.
Basic Method:
- Choose the carrier oil(s) you want to use as the main component. You can use a single oil at 100% or mix several carrier oils in your desired ratio.
- If you wish to add fragrance or special properties, you can add a small amount of essential oil (typically no more than 1-2% of the total oil volume). Mix thoroughly.
- Pour into a clean, airtight bottle and store away from sunlight and heat.
Precautions:
- Some essential oils can cause skin irritation. Always perform a patch test before widespread use and research the specific usage guidelines for each essential oil.
- Homemade products should be used within a reasonable timeframe. Discard the oil if you notice any changes in smell or appearance.
