Question
I am formulating a BB Body Cream using Water-in-Oil EZ™. My formula currently has 58% water.
I plan to add the following powders:
- Synthetic Fluorphlogopite
- Titanium Dioxide
- Iron Oxides
I have the following questions:
- How do these powders affect the oil/water ratio calculation for
Water-in-Oil EZ™? - Do I need to add
Oil-Fix™to the formula to help stabilize the emulsion or disperse the powders? - What is the correct method for incorporating these powders into the cream base?
Answer
Answer to your questions about the BB Body Cream formula with Water-in-Oil EZ™
Based on the staff's response:
- Adding the powdered ingredients (Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides) does not typically increase the Oil/Silicone base ratio when calculating the ratio for emulsion stability. These powders are generally not included in the calculation of the water and oil phases.
- Since the powders are not included in the calculation of the oil/water ratio for the emulsifier, adding them is not expected to cause issues with the performance of Water-in-Oil EZ™ in that regard. However, please note that your formula already contains 58% water, which is below the recommended minimum of 65% for Water-in-Oil EZ™.
- It is not necessary to add Oil-Fix™ to this formula. The staff recommends adding the powders in the final step by dispersing them into the cream base. If you encounter issues with the dispersion of the powders or the stability of the formula, using Hectorite Gel (Cyclomethicone Base) is suggested as a more suitable alternative than Oil-Fix™ for helping to suspend pigments and powders.
