Answer
Beginner Eye Serum Formula (Basic)
For beginners who want to try making their own eye serum, here is a basic formula focusing on hydration and soothing the delicate skin around the eyes. It's not difficult to make.
Ingredients (for approximately 100g):
- Distilled Water or RO Water: 95.7 g
- Hyaluronic Acid (Standard Molecule): 0.3 g (Helps hydrate the outer layer of the skin)
- D-Panthenol Care (Pro-Vitamin B5): 2 g (Helps soothe, reduce inflammation, and give moisture)
- Allantoin: 0.5 g (Helps reduce irritation and promotes skin regeneration)
- Xanthan Gum (clear gel type, smooth texture): 0.5 g (Helps create the gel texture for the serum)
- Mild Preserved™ COS: 1 g (Preservative, to ensure the serum is safe and has a longer shelf life)
Equipment Needed:
- Clean and sanitized containers (e.g., glass beakers)
- Spatula or spoon for stirring
- Digital scale with sufficient precision
- Clean bottle or container for the finished serum
Instructions:
- Prepare the Water Phase: Measure about half of the total water (approx. 48g) into a container. Gently warm it (to about 50-60°C) to help dissolve the Allantoin.
- Dissolve Allantoin: Add Allantoin to the warm water and stir until completely dissolved. Let it cool down slightly.
- Form the Gel: While the first water phase is cooling, measure the remaining distilled water (approx. 47.7g) into another container. Slowly sprinkle the Xanthan Gum into the water little by little while stirring or using a small mixer to help disperse the Xanthan Gum and start forming the gel. Continue stirring or mixing until a smooth, uniform gel is formed (this step may require time and effort if you don't have a mixer).
- Combine Ingredients: Slowly pour the water mixture containing dissolved Allantoin (from step 2) into the Xanthan Gum gel base (from step 3). Stir or mix well until combined.
- Add Actives: Add D-Panthenol Care and stir until fully incorporated.
- Add Preservative: Once the entire mixture has cooled to below 45°C, add Mild Preserved™ COS and stir thoroughly until evenly mixed.
- Check and Package: Check the serum texture. If there are air bubbles, let it sit for a while to allow them to rise and dissipate. Pour the finished serum into the prepared bottle or container.
Additional Tips:
- Always maintain cleanliness of your equipment and workspace.
- It's advisable to make a small test batch before making a larger quantity.
- This serum formula should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight to extend its shelf life.
- Always perform a patch test before using the product extensively by applying a small amount to your forearm.
This formula is a good starting point. Once you are comfortable with the process, you can modify or add other beneficial ingredients for the eye area later on.
