Question

As a beginner, I would like to formulate a serum using Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye).

Could you provide a recommended formula using this base?

I am also interested in the following:

  • How does Active Resveratrol™ compare to Vitamin C in terms of skin brightening/whitening effectiveness?
  • Is Centella Asiatica Extract (Asiaticoside) suitable for use as a soothing agent in this type of serum?
  • What are your thoughts on using other thickening/emulsifying agents like SiliSolve™ or Warp Cream Maker™ for this type of serum formulation?

Answer

Recommended Serum Formula

This formula uses a pre-made base for easier mixing and includes ingredients targeting oil control, soothing, and potentially brightening and anti-aging benefits.

  • Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye): 10%
  • Active Resveratrol™: 10%
  • Centella Asiatica Extract (Asiaticoside): 5%
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (Pure MSM™): 3%
  • Safe-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide): 5% (Recommended addition by the expert for oil control, synergy with MSM, and whitening)
  • Phenoxyethanol: 1%
  • Water: Remaining percentage (adjust to reach 100%)

Ingredient Benefits:

  • Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye): Provides a light, soft, smooth texture that absorbs quickly, suitable for normal to oily skin.
  • Active Resveratrol™: Known for antioxidant properties, potential anti-aging benefits by stimulating collagen, UV protection, anti-inflammatory effects, and helping reduce wrinkles.
  • Centella Asiatica Extract (Asiaticoside): Supports wound healing, has anti-aging properties by encouraging collagen, provides hydration, helps repair the skin barrier, and has anti-inflammatory effects, useful for soothing irritation and potentially reducing acne scars.
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (Pure MSM™): Helps control oil production and can aid in collagen synthesis for skin flexibility. Note from product description: Not suitable for use with Vitamin C in the same formula as it may cause Vitamin C to oxidize faster.
  • Safe-B3™ (Vitamin B3, Niacinamide): Beneficial for reducing wrinkles, reducing redness/hyperpigmentation, adding moisture by stimulating collagen and ceramide production, strengthening the skin barrier, fighting irritations, and reducing oiliness. Can be used up to 10% without causing flushing.
  • Phenoxyethanol: Acts as a preservative to protect the product.

Mixing Instructions:

  1. Combine the water and all water-soluble ingredients (Active Resveratrol™, Centella Asiatica Extract, Pure MSM™, Safe-B3™, Phenoxyethanol).
  2. Gradually add the water mixture to the Silky Serum Base, stirring continuously until a serum texture is achieved. Adding the water slowly in parts and stirring well before adding more is crucial for proper emulsification.

Addressing Your Specific Questions:

  • Active Resveratrol™ vs Vitamin C for whitening: The expert did not provide a comment on the comparison between Active Resveratrol™ and Vitamin C for skin brightening, as they have not personally used Resveratrol.
  • SiliSolve™ vs Warp Cream Maker™: The expert's recommended approach uses a pre-made base (Silky Serum Base) and water to form the serum texture, rather than comparing SiliSolve™ and Warp Cream Maker™ directly.
  • Centella Asiatica Extract (Asiaticoside) for soothing: Yes, you are correct. Centella Asiatica Extract is known for its soothing properties and is included in the recommended formula for this benefit, among others.

This revised formula incorporates the expert's suggestions for your skin type and concerns.
