Question
I am planning to make a body lotion. I am currently trying to formulate one for peeling spots, scars, and stretch marks using Cetyl alcohol and IPM, but the formula is not working well.
- What is the full name and function of
IPM? - Do
B3 (Niacinamide)andGlucosaminehelp with collagen stimulation, and can they be added to a formula containingDouble Hyaluronic Acid? - Besides
Double Hyaluronic Acid, are other hydrating ingredients likeBeta glucanorSea Kelpnecessary? - Could you recommend places to purchase ingredients that might not be available locally?
Answer
Answers to your questions based on the forum discussion:
Regarding your questions about B3 (Niacinamide), Glucosamine, Beta glucan, and Sea Kelp:
B3 (Niacinamide) and Glucosamine for collagen and adding to Double Hya:
- Yes, B3 and N-Acetyl Glucosamine do help with collagen stimulation. However, as mentioned by cosmeceutical7, they are not sufficient on their own to fix existing wrinkles; they help maintain collagen health. For addressing wrinkles, peptides (like Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline) or alternatives like DMAE, ALA, or Vitamin A are needed.
- Based on the formula shared by siranant.pooliam which includes B3, Glucosamine, and Hyaluronic Acid, it appears these ingredients can be combined.
Other hydrating ingredients besides Double Hya:
- According to cosmeceutical7, if your skin feels sufficiently hydrated using Double Hyaluron, you may not need other ingredients like Beta glucan or Sea Kelp just for hydration.
- Beta glucan is particularly beneficial for sensitive, easily irritated skin or conditions like seborrheic dermatitis.
- Sea Kelp provides broader skin nutrition beyond just hydration.
- The advice is that if Hyaluronic Acid meets your hydration needs, you might get more value by investing in ingredients specifically targeting your other concerns, such as wrinkles, unless you have an unlimited budget.
It's good to hear you are enjoying the Double Hyaluron + Green tea extract and the Matrixyl/Argireline formula. As cosmeceutical7 noted, seeing results for wrinkles from peptides like Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline can take more time than 10 days, so consistency is key, along with sun protection.
