Addressing Rancidity in Your Body Oil

The rancid smell is caused by the oxidation of the unsaturated fatty acids present in some of the natural oils in your formula that transfer onto your towels. To mitigate this, you can consider adjusting your formulation and improving your laundry practices.

Formulation Adjustments

• Modify the Oil Blend: Reduce the proportion of oils high in polyunsaturated fats (Rose Hip Oil, Argan Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil). You could replace some of their percentage with more stable oils like Jojoba Oil or Squalane, or consider using highly stable ester oils which are less prone to oxidation and can also provide a lighter feel.
• Enhance Antioxidant Protection: While you have included Perfect-C (Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate) and Tocotrienols, increasing the concentration of these antioxidants or adding a different type of oil-soluble antioxidant could provide better protection against oxidation, both within the oil blend itself and on the residual oil left on fabrics.

Towel Care

• Improved Washing: Oil residues can be difficult to remove from towels with regular washing, leading to buildup and rancidity. Try pre-soaking your towels in hot water with a strong detergent or a degreaser before putting them through a normal wash cycle. Using a laundry booster or a detergent specifically formulated for tough stains might also be beneficial.
• Ensure Complete Drying: Make sure your towels are completely dry after washing before folding and storing them. Residual moisture can contribute to bacterial growth and exacerbate the rancidity issue.

By adjusting your oil blend to include more stable oils or increasing the antioxidant protection, and by implementing more effective towel washing methods, you should be able to significantly reduce or eliminate the rancid smell on your towels.
