Calculating Ingredient Amounts: Weight vs. Volume/Density

Question

I have an ingredient supplied in a syringe. When formulating, how should I measure it accurately?

  • Is it necessary to transfer it to a measuring cylinder?
  • Should I calculate the required amount based on weight or volume?
  • Is the density information relevant for calculation?

Answer

Based on the staff's response:

  1. Calculating RM weight: For accurate formulation, you should always calculate based on weight only, not volume or density.
  2. Density information: The company has density information, but it is not recommended for formulation calculations because density can vary slightly between batches and with temperature. Using weight is more accurate.

The staff did not address your question about whether a measuring cylinder is needed if the product is supplied in a syringe.
