Cetyl Dimethicone vs. Dimethicone

Cetyl Dimethicone is a modified type of Dimethicone. It is a silicone polymer that has a cetyl group attached to it. This modification gives it slightly different properties compared to basic Dimethicone.

• Dimethicone is primarily used as a skin conditioning agent, emollient, and provides a smooth, slippery feel. It helps to form a protective barrier on the skin.
• Cetyl Dimethicone also acts as an emollient and skin conditioner. Additionally, due to the cetyl group, it can function as a non-aqueous viscosity builder and a stabilizer in emulsions, helping to improve the texture and stability of creams and lotions. However, it is generally not considered a primary emulsifier that can create an emulsion on its own; it works more as a co-emulsifier or stabilizer.
