Clarifying the Usage and Consistency of Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1)

Question

I am inquiring about the usage method for the product Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1) (Product ID 481). The product description states it should be used in formulations mixed with water at 1-20%. I tested it at 4% and 20%, and the result was quite liquid/watery. I need clarification on two points:

  1. Does this product require time to swell and thicken, or is it supplied as a ready-to-use active ingredient that only needs other active ingredients added?
  2. If this product is supplied ready-to-use, does the company offer a powdered form of Biosaccharide that can be used to prepare a gel base myself?

Answer

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the usage of Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1) (Product ID 481).

1. Usage and Consistency of Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1)

The results you observed (a very liquid consistency at 4% and 20%) are correct and expected for this product.

  • Ready-to-Use Liquid: This product is supplied as a clear liquid gel and is a ready-to-use active ingredient/moisturizer. It is a pre-solubilized form of Biosaccharide Gum-1 and does not need time to swell or thicken.
  • Function vs. Texture: The primary function of Biosaccharide Gum-1 is to provide long-lasting skin moisturization and a smooth, non-sticky coating. It is an active ingredient and skin conditioner, not a primary gelling agent (thickener) like Xanthan Gum or Carbomer.
  • Formulation Guidance: You should use Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1) by mixing it into the water phase of your formulation at your desired rate (1-20%). If you wish to create a thick gel or cream texture, you must add a separate, dedicated gelling agent (such as Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, or AnyGel™) to the formulation. Hydro Gel will contribute to the moisturizing properties and skin feel, but not the viscosity.

2. Availability of Powdered Biosaccharide

Regarding your second question, we currently do not offer a pure powdered form of Biosaccharide Gum-1 for customers to prepare the gel themselves.

The standard product we offer is the liquid Hydro Gel (Biosaccharide Gum-1) (ID 481), which is the most convenient and stable form for direct use in cosmetic formulations.

If your goal is to create a thick gel, we recommend using a dedicated gelling agent in combination with the Hydro Gel, such as:

  • Xanthan Gum (clear gel type) (ID 2055, ID 126174, ID 31764)
  • AnyGel™ (ID 1282)
