Clay Mask Formula for Oily Skin and Blackheads

For oily skin prone to blackheads and clogged pores, a clay mask can be very beneficial. Clays help absorb excess oil and impurities, while ingredients like Salicylic Acid work to dissolve the material clogging the pores.

Here is a simple formula idea for a clay mask targeting these concerns:

Ingredients:

• Green Clay or Kaolin: These natural clays are excellent for absorbing oil and impurities from the skin. Green Clay is particularly known for its oil absorption and pore tightening properties.
• Liquid Salicylic Acid (40% Active Salicylic, Cationic For Wash-Off): This form of Salicylic Acid is water-soluble and suitable for rinse-off products like masks. It helps to exfoliate the skin and dissolve clogged pores. Use according to the recommended usage rate (typically 1-5% of the total formula, which provides 0.4-2% active Salicylic Acid).
• Water or Hydrosol: To mix with the clay to form a paste.
• Pep®-Acne (Optional): This anti-microbial peptide can be added to help control acne-causing bacteria. Use at a rate of 5%.

How to Formulate:

1. Combine the clay powder (Green Clay or Kaolin) with water or hydrosol, mixing gradually until a smooth paste consistency is achieved.
2. Add the Liquid Salicylic Acid (40% Active Salicylic, Cationic For Wash-Off) and Pep®-Acne (if using) to the clay paste.
3. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

How to Use:

Apply a thin layer of the mask to clean, dry skin, focusing on areas with blackheads and clogged pores like the nose and cheekbones. Avoid the eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, or until the mask is mostly dry but not completely hardened. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water. Use 1-2 times per week.
