Question

I want to make my own clay mask using the following formula:

  • 21.4 oz. Distilled water
  • 1 oz. Rose Clay
  • 3.5 oz. Kaolin Clay
  • 1 oz. Rosehip seed oil
  • 1.3 oz Avocado Oil
  • 0.8 oz BTMS-50 Conditioning Emulsifier
  • 1 oz Polawax Emulsifying wax
  • 0.5 oz Chamomile extract
  • 0.2 oz Optiphen
  • 1 ml Rose Absolute

I would like to ask if the ingredients BTMS-50 Conditioning Emulsifier and Polawax Emulsifying wax can be substituted with Light Cream Maker from your store.

Thank you.

Answer

Clay Mask Ingredients from MySkinRecipes

Based on the clay mask formula you provided, here are the equivalent ingredients available at MySkinRecipes:

  • BTMS-50 Conditioning Emulsifier: You can use Behentrimonium methosulfate (BTMS 50%).
  • Polawax Emulsifying wax: We do not have a direct equivalent product named "Polawax". Polawax is a complete emulsifying wax blend. You would typically look for another complete emulsifying wax or a combination of emulsifiers and thickeners to achieve a similar result. Light Cream Maker™ is an emulsifier, but it is a cold-process emulsifier and thickener that works differently and is typically used for lighter creams with lower oil content (up to 20%). It may not be a suitable direct substitute for Polawax in this formula, which uses both a conditioning emulsifier (BTMS-50 type) and an emulsifying wax (Polawax type) and has a significant oil phase (Rosehip and Avocado oils). Using Light Cream Maker™ might result in a different texture or stability.
  • Rose Clay: You can use Red Clay.
  • Kaolin Clay: You can use Kaolin (China Clay, 200nm).
  • Rosehip seed oil: You can use Rose Hip Oil (Extra Virgin Organic).
  • Avocado Oil: You can use Avocado Oil (Refined).
  • Chamomile extract: You can use Natural Bisabolol (Brazil Chamomile).
  • Optiphen: You can use Phenoxyethanol (Extra Pure).
  • Rose Absolute: You can use Rose Absolute (Rosa Damascena) Bulgaria).

When substituting ingredients, especially emulsifiers, it is always recommended to make a small test batch to ensure the desired texture and stability are achieved.
