Cleaning Equipment and Sunscreen Residue

To clean homogenizers and stirrers used with waterproof sunscreen formulations, you can use surfactants that are effective at removing oil and waterproof polymers. Suitable substances include:

• Potassium Laurate (30%): A detergent produced by the saponification of lauric acid and potassium hydroxide. It can be mixed with water for cleaning.
• Sodium Xylene Sulfonate (Hydrotrope Surfactant): A detergent commonly used with other surfactants in cleaning formulas. It helps increase the solubility of other substances in water.

Adding SPF50 PA+++ to Essence BB

To achieve SPF50 PA+++ in an Essence BB, it is necessary to add appropriate amounts of both UVB and UVA filters. You can consider using individual sunscreen ingredients or using a pre-made sunscreen base with high SPF/PA values.

• Using Individual Sunscreen Ingredients: You can select stable, broad-spectrum UV filters such as:
  • BEMT (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine): Protects against both UVA/UVB and is highly stable. Recommended for use at 2-4% in high-performance formulas.
  • DHHB (Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate): Provides excellent UVA protection and is highly stable. It can also boost SPF values. Usage at 5% gives PA+++, and >7.5% gives PA++++.
  • Bisoctrizole (MBBT): Provides broad protection against UVB, UVA I, and UVA II, and is water-dispersible.
  • It may be necessary to combine these with other sunscreen ingredients to achieve the desired SPF50 and PA+++. You might also need a solvent like LipidSoft™ SPF to help dissolve some chemical sunscreens and reduce stickiness.
• Using a Pre-made Sunscreen Base: This is an easier and more convenient way to quickly achieve the desired SPF/PA values, such as:
  • SPF Protect Ultra™ III (UVA+UVB): A blend of sunscreens that provides high SPF and covers both UVB and UVA. Using it at 20% yields an SPF of approximately 50.
  • Fluid Extreme Sunscreen: A water-based sunscreen base that offers very high protection and can be used directly as the base for your formulation.

When selecting sunscreen ingredients, consider their compatibility within the formula, stability, and the desired texture.
