Question

I want to try making cleansing water myself because my skin is acne-prone and sensitive. I would like you to help adjust the formula and advise on the appropriate amounts. The ingredients I am considering are Water = 38g, make up wash (PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides) = 4g, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate = 4g, and Butylene Glycol = 5g. How many grams of Rosemary Water should I add?

Answer

Cleansing Water Formula Adjustment for Acne-Prone, Sensitive Skin

Based on the ingredients you provided, here is an adjusted formula for a gentle cleansing water suitable for acne-prone and sensitive skin, assuming a total batch size of 100g:

  • Rosemary Water: 49g
  • Water: 38g
  • MakeUp-Wash™ (PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides): 4g
  • Coco Wash™ (PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate): 4g
  • Butylene Glycol: 5g

Total: 100g

This formulation uses gentle surfactants like MakeUp-Wash™ and Coco Wash™ at appropriate concentrations for effective makeup removal and cleansing without causing irritation. Butylene Glycol helps to hydrate the skin. Rosemary Water serves as a beneficial part of the water base.

Mixing Instructions:

  1. Combine the Water and Rosemary Water.
  2. Gently add the MakeUp-Wash™ and Coco Wash™ to the water mixture, stirring slowly to avoid excessive foam.
  3. Add the Butylene Glycol and stir until everything is well combined.

Note on Preservation: The Rosemary Water you are using already contains a preservative (phenoxyethanol 0.5%), which should be sufficient to preserve this formula.
