Clear Serum Bases and Coloring

To create a clear serum, you can use specific serum bases designed for this purpose. Here are a few options:

• Silky Serum Base (Face/Eye): This base is light, soft, smooth, and absorbs quickly. It is designed to be mixed with water and water-soluble ingredients (30-90% water). It cannot incorporate oils. Adding 1% NaCl or Magnesium Sulfate is recommended for stability.

  • Example Formula (Liquid Serum, 1000ml):

    • Silky Serum Base: 350 ml/g
    • Water / Water-soluble ingredients: 650 ml/g
    • NaCl or Magnesium Sulfate: 10 g

  • Example Formula (Thicker Serum, 1000ml):

    • Silky Serum Base: 100 ml/g
    • Water / Water-soluble ingredients: 900 ml/g
    • NaCl or Magnesium Sulfate: 10 g

• Silky Serum Base Plus (Face/Eye, Oil): Similar to the above but can incorporate oils (up to 30% of the formula). If you need to add oil-soluble active ingredients, this base would be more suitable, although incorporating oil might slightly affect clarity depending on the oil type and concentration.

• Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base: This is a clear gel base focused on hydration. It can be used as the primary base (1-100%) and mixed with other ingredients.

  • Example Formula (Simple Gel Serum, 1000ml):
    • Hyaluronic Acid Gel Base: 990 ml/g
    • Active ingredients / Preservative: 10 ml/g

Regarding coloring, mica powders are generally not suitable for creating a clear colored serum. Mica is a pigment powder that is not soluble and will likely settle at the bottom or make the serum appear cloudy or shimmery, not a transparent color. For a clear colored serum, you should use water-soluble cosmetic liquid colors or dyes specifically designed for this application.

Remember to add a suitable preservative if your formula contains water to prevent microbial growth.
