Cloudiness in Resveratrol Serum Formulation and How to Achieve Clarity

Question

I am formulating a serum using ActiveRelease™ Trans-Resveratrol, Disodium EDTA, and distilled water. The mixture appears milky or cloudy instead of clear. Why does this happen, does it affect the efficacy, and how can I make the serum clear?

Answer

Understanding Cloudiness in Your Resveratrol Serum

It is normal for your mixture of ActiveRelease™ Trans-Resveratrol, Disodium EDTA, and distilled water to appear milky or cloudy. While ActiveRelease™ Trans-Resveratrol is designed to be water-soluble (containing Resveratrol and Cyclodextrin), the concentration used or the interaction with other components like Disodium EDTA can sometimes result in a cloudy appearance rather than a perfectly clear solution.

Efficacy is Maintained

The good news is that this cloudiness does not typically affect the efficacy of the ActiveRelease™ Trans-Resveratrol. The active ingredient is still present and able to provide its benefits even in a cloudy serum.

Achieving a Clear Serum

If you prefer a clear serum, as mentioned by the staff, you can incorporate a solubilizer into your formulation. Recommended options include:

  • Flora Solve™ Clear: Use at a concentration of 2-4%.
  • Poloxamer 407: Use at a concentration of 1-2%.

You can choose either one of these solubilizers to help achieve a clear serum consistency.
