Cloudiness in Water-based Fragrance Spray Formula
Question
My formula contains Essential oil 4%, Flora Solve Clear 12%, Water 80%, and Flora Fix 4%. I've tested multiple times and found that Flora Fix is causing cloudiness. What can I use as an alternative to make the scent long-lasting?
Answer
Addressing Cloudiness with Flora Fix™ in Your Formula
You've identified that Flora Fix™ (long lasting fragrance) is causing cloudiness in your formula containing Essential oil, Flora Solve™ Clear (Fragrance Solubilizer), and Water. While Flora Fix™ is designed to help fragrances last longer and is soluble in water, alcohol, and some oils, its solubility can sometimes be limited depending on the specific essential oil used and the overall composition of the formula. At 4% concentration, even though it's within the general recommended range for cosmetic products (1-5%), it might be exceeding its solubility limit in your particular water-based system, leading to the observed cloudiness.
To achieve a clear, long-lasting fragrance in your water-based spray, you could consider an alternative approach using AromaLock™ (Fragrance Encapsulation Service). AromaLock™ encapsulates your essential oil into a water-soluble powder. This encapsulated form is designed to dissolve clearly in water and provide a sustained release of fragrance, effectively acting as a long-lasting mechanism without the potential solubility issues of a liquid fixative like Flora Fix™.
How to use AromaLock™ as an alternative:
- Send your essential oil to be encapsulated using the AromaLock™ service.
- Once you receive the encapsulated essential oil powder, mix it with your Flora Solve™ Clear.
- Gradually add this mixture to the water phase, stirring until clear.
This method encapsulates the fragrance itself, making it highly compatible with water-based systems and helping to maintain clarity while ensuring the scent lasts longer.
