Question

I made an eye gel using Pro Polymer and added Eye Preserved at 1% + 0.1g. The resulting gel is cloudy and has white streaks. What is causing this texture issue, and how can I prevent it in the future?

Answer

Hello,

Regarding the eye gel you made:

  • Cloudy/Streaky Appearance: The white streaks and cloudiness likely indicate that the gel matrix (from Pro Polymer) did not form completely or properly. This can happen if the neutralizing agent (like Triethanolamine, which was in the original formula but not mentioned in your list of ingredients you have) was not used, or if ingredients were added in the wrong order or not mixed thoroughly.
  • Eye Preserved Amount: You mentioned adding 1% + 0.1g of Eye Preserved. While 0.1g might seem small, adding more than the recommended percentage (which the staff suggested as 1%) could potentially increase the risk of irritation, especially for the sensitive eye area. Preservatives are potent ingredients.
  • Usability: Due to the uncertain cause of the streaks/cloudiness and the potential for increased irritation from the slightly higher preservative concentration, it is not recommended to use this batch of eye gel around your eyes. It's better to discard it.

To help diagnose the issue and provide better advice for your next attempt, please provide the exact list of ingredients and their percentages you used, as well as the step-by-step process you followed when making the gel, as requested by the staff.

Thank you.
