- Licorice extract 2g
- Witch Hazel (Alcohol Free) 30g
- Marine Plankton 3g
- RETINAT 2g
- Aloe Vera Gel 70g
- Rose Water 5g
- Natural Moisturizing Amino acid 5g
Answer
Cosmetic Ingredient Compatibility and Proportions
Based on the ingredients you've listed, most of them are water-soluble and can be mixed into an Aloe Vera Gel base. However, there are important considerations regarding the proportions and compatibility of some ingredients.
Compatibility and Usage Rates:
- Willow Bark Extract (Natural Salicylic Acid): Your proposed amount (10g in 127g, approx. 7.87%) is within the recommended usage rate of 1-10%. It is water-soluble and should be added at temperatures below 40°C.
- Licorice Extract (Water-Soluble): Your proposed amount (2g in 127g, approx. 1.57%) is within the recommended usage rate of 1-2%. It is water-soluble and should be added at temperatures below 40°C, avoiding heat.
- Witch Hazel (Alcohol Free): Your proposed amount (30g in 127g, approx. 23.6%) is within the recommended usage rate of 10-100%. It is water-soluble and should be added at temperatures below 40°C.
- Marine Plankton: Your proposed amount (3g in 127g, approx. 2.36%) is slightly above the recommended usage rate of 1-2%. While a small excess might be acceptable, it's generally best to stay within the recommended range for optimal performance and safety.
- RETINAT (HyaRetin™): Your proposed amount (2g in 127g, approx. 1.57%) is significantly higher than the recommended usage rate of 0.01-0.1%. Using this ingredient at such a high concentration is strongly discouraged and can potentially cause significant skin irritation and adverse reactions. The proportion of RETINAT must be drastically reduced to be within the recommended range (0.1% or less).
- Aloe Vera Gel (Heavy): This serves as your base. Your proposed amount (70g in 127g, approx. 55.1%) is reasonable for a base.
- Rose Water: Your proposed amount (5g in 127g, approx. 3.9%) is within the recommended usage rate of 1-100%. It is water-soluble.
- Natural Moisturizing Amino Acids: Your proposed amount (5g in 127g, approx. 3.9%) is within the recommended usage rate of 0.5-5% for skin. It is water-soluble and should avoid prolonged stirring/shaking.
Potential Compatibility Issues:
- RETINAT (HyaRetin™) is incompatible with cationic substances. You should verify if the "Pro Polymer" in your Aloe Vera Gel base is cationic. If it is, this combination may not be stable or effective.
- The final pH of the mixture will be influenced by the pH of each ingredient (ranging from 3-7). While most ingredients have overlapping compatible pH ranges, the high concentration of certain ingredients could shift the final pH. The stability of RETINAT (HyaRetin™) is also pH-dependent, although encapsulation helps.
Recommended Adjustments and Considerations:
- Crucially, reduce the amount of RETINAT (HyaRetin™) to a maximum of 0.1% of the total formulation. For a 127g batch, this would be no more than approximately 0.127g.
- Consider slightly reducing the Marine Plankton to stay within the 1-2% recommended range.
- Verify the nature of the Pro Polymer in your Aloe Vera Gel base to ensure compatibility with RETINAT (HyaRetin™).
- Due to the presence of Rose Water and RETINAT (HyaRetin™), the final product should ideally be stored in the refrigerator to maintain stability and efficacy.
- When mixing, ensure ingredients sensitive to heat (Willow Bark Extract, Licorice Extract, Witch Hazel) are added when the base is below 40°C. Add powdered ingredients like HyaRetin™ to the water phase and ensure they are fully dissolved.
In summary, while most ingredients can be combined, the high concentration of RETINAT (HyaRetin™) in your proposed formula is a significant concern and must be adjusted. Always follow the recommended usage rates for each ingredient to ensure safety and effectiveness.
