Question

Could you please clarify two points regarding "Madecassoside (Centella Asiatica Extract 80%)"? Firstly, does the "extra high concentration (Madecassoside 80%)" mean that if I use 1% of this ingredient, the final formulation will contain 80% Madecassoside? Secondly, for product registration, should the ingredient list state "Centella Asiatica Extract" or "Madecassoside"?

Answer

Answers to Your Questions

Here are the answers to your questions regarding "Centella Asiatica Extract (Madecassoside 90%)":

  1. Concentration: The "90%" in the product name "Centella Asiatica Extract (Madecassoside 90%)" refers to the concentration of Madecassoside within the extract itself. If you use 1% of this extract in your formulation, the final concentration of pure Madecassoside in your product will be 1% of 90%, which equals 0.9%. It does not mean your final product will contain 90% Madecassoside.

  2. Ingredient Listing for Registration: For product registration (จดแจ้ง), according to INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) guidelines, when using a standardized extract like this one (standardized to 90% Madecassoside), it is generally recommended to list the specific active component, which is Madecassoside, in the ingredient list. While Centella Asiatica Extract might also be listed, specifying Madecassoside is more accurate given the product's high standardization for this particular compound.
