CoolTouch™ Solubility and Usage in Spray Formulation with Light Lotion Maker
Question
How can CoolTouch™ (Menthyl Lactate) be dissolved, and how can it be used to create a spray formulation, specifically utilizing Light Lotion Maker to combine water and oil phases?
Answer
CoolTouch™ (Menthyl Lactate) Solubility and Usage in Spray Formulations
CoolTouch™ (Menthyl Lactate) is not water-soluble. It needs to be dissolved in oil, glycol, or ethyl alcohol. You can use heat up to 50°C to help it dissolve faster.
To use CoolTouch™ in a spray formulation that contains both water and oil phases, you will need an emulsifier to bind the two phases together. Light Lotion Maker is a suitable high-performance emulsifier that can create light textures suitable for sprays.
How to use CoolTouch™ in a spray formulation with Light Lotion Maker:
- Dissolve CoolTouch™ in the oil phase of your formulation.
- Mix Light Lotion Maker into the oil phase.
- Gradually add the oil phase mixture to the water phase while stirring or mixing.
- Light Lotion Maker can be used in a cold process (without heat).
For a spray formula, it is recommended to use Light Lotion Maker at 3-4% and Polysorbate 80 at 1%. You may also consider adding a small amount of Xanthan Gum (around 0.2%) to help prevent separation and keep the formula from being too liquid.
Follow the recommended usage rate for CoolTouch™, which is typically 0.1-1%, depending on the desired cooling intensity.
