Question
I have a cream formulation with ingredients numbered 1-11.
- Could you please confirm the correct mixing procedure for the water phase (ingredients 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11) and the oil phase (ingredients 7, 8)?
- I'm concerned about the resulting texture; will it be sticky?
- How should I properly incorporate powdered ingredients that are water-soluble (like ingredient 9, the preservative, which I planned to add at the end)?
Answer
Based on the staff's feedback regarding your cream formulation:
- Mixing Method: The staff confirmed the method of mixing the water phase (ingredients 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11) and the oil phase (ingredients 7, 8) separately. The correct next step is to gradually add the water phase into the oil phase while continuously stirring until the cream texture is formed. Finally, add the preservative (ingredient 9) and mix well.
- Stickiness: The resulting cream is not expected to be sticky for normal to dry skin types. However, it might feel sticky for oily skin due to the oil content.
- Powdered Ingredients: Powdered ingredients that are soluble in water should be dissolved in the water phase at the very beginning of the process, not added as powder at the end.
