Cream Formulation with Vitamin A (Retinal)
Question
I am interested in formulating a cream containing Vitamin A (Retinol). I would like to know:
- Is pure Retinol available?
- If not, what alternatives like Retinaldehyde or Retinyl Palmitate are available?
- Could you provide a sample formulation using one of these alternatives?
- I also wanted to ask about a tester version with oil.
Answer
Regarding your interest in a cream containing Retinol (Vitamin A):
Based on the thread, pure Retinol is not available, but Retinaldehyde and Retinyl Palmitate are offered as alternatives. Both are forms of Vitamin A. Retinaldehyde is considered the most effective form allowed in cosmetics by the FDA.
Here is a sample formulation provided in the thread, using Retinal:
- Water: Remaining %
- Retinal: 0.05%
- FloraSolve: 5%
- LipidSoft Dry: 15%
- Satin Cream Maker™: 1%
- Preservative: 1.0%
- Vitamin E Acetate: 0.1% (helps stabilize Vitamin A)
To determine the total grams this formulation makes, you decide the total desired weight of the final cream (e.g., 100g). Then calculate the weight of each ingredient based on its percentage of the total. For example, for a 100g batch, you would use 0.05% of 100g, which is 0.05g of Retinal.
Regarding the tester version with oil, I do not have information on future product availability.
