Creating a Lightweight, Fast-Absorbing "Water Drop Serum" Texture
Question
How can I create a lightweight, fast-absorbing serum texture that feels like water breaking on the skin, also known as a "water drop serum"? I am considering using Silky Serum Base or Silky Serum Base Plus. What are the differences between these bases and how should I use them to achieve this texture, especially regarding water and oil content and ensuring stability?
Answer
Achieving a Lightweight, Fast-Absorbing "Water Drop Serum" Texture
The texture you are looking for, which is lightweight, fast-absorbing, and feels like water spreading on the skin, is often referred to as a "water drop serum".
You can create this type of texture using either Silky Serum Base or Silky Serum Base Plus.
Silky Serum Base: This base is suitable for formulas that do not contain oil. You can mix it with water and water-soluble ingredients at a ratio of 30-90% water. For improved stability, it is recommended to add 1% Magnesium Sulfate or NaCl (pure salt) to the formula.
Silky Serum Base Plus: Use this base if your formula includes oils (up to 30%) or silicones. It can be mixed with water (30-90%) and oil (up to 30%). For stability, adding 1-2% Magnesium Sulfate is recommended.
Both bases result in a very light and soft serum texture that absorbs quickly. The final viscosity depends on the ratio of water and the base used.
General Mixing Tip: When mixing, it is important to add the water (or water phase) to the base gradually in small portions, stirring well after each addition before adding more. This helps the base properly form the serum texture.
Choose the base that best suits whether your desired formula contains oil or is oil-free.
