Question

I have a cushion foundation formula containing Silk Mica Powder 20% and Bismuth Oxychloride 10%. Will this formula separate? If it separates, how can I adjust it? Also, what is the role of these powders, and how can I improve the film formation and water resistance of the formula?

Answer

Regarding your question about whether this specific cushion formula will separate, based on the staff's previous response, it is difficult to determine without conducting a test. The staff advised that if you proceed with making the formula and observe separation, you could attempt to stabilize it by adjusting the percentages, such as increasing the amount of Oil-Fix or decreasing the total percentage of the oil phase or powders.

The staff also provided other relevant feedback on the ingredients in your proposed formula:

  • Adding powders like Silk Mica Powder (20% in your formula) is the correct approach to improve coverage.
  • Bismuth Oxychloride (10% in your formula) is used for glow. The staff noted that 10% might provide a significant glow, which could be more than desired if you prefer a non-shiny finish.
  • They also suggested adding at least 5% wax (like Polyethylene Wax) to the formula to enhance film formation and water resistance, which is a component not currently listed in your formula.
