DiffuseFix and Alcohol Usage in Reed Diffuser Formulations
Question
If I add DiffuseFix to a diffuser fragrance formula, do I still need to add alcohol?
Answer
DiffuseFix™ (Fixative for Diffuser) is an additive (fixative) designed to help the fragrance diffuse better and last longer; it is not a replacement for a diffuser base or alcohol.
In a reed diffuser formulation, you still need a "carrier" or "base" to thin the fragrance oil so it can travel up the reeds. You have two main options:
Using a Ready-to-Use Base (Recommended):
If you use a specialized base like Reed Diffuser Base (Type 1) or Reed Diffuser Base (Type 2), you do not need to add additional alcohol. These bases are already formulated to evaporate at the correct rate. You would simply mix:- Fragrance Oil: 15-25%
- DiffuseFix™: 2-10%
- Reed Diffuser Base: 65-83%
Using Alcohol (DIY Base):
If you are making your own base using alcohol (such as Ethyl Alcohol), you still need it to act as the solvent. However, using only alcohol often causes the scent to evaporate too quickly. DiffuseFix™ will help "fix" the scent and slow down the evaporation, but it cannot replace the alcohol's role as a solvent.
Summary:
You still need a base/solvent. We recommend using Reed Diffuser Base instead of pure alcohol for a more professional result and better scent throw, then adding DiffuseFix™ to enhance the performance.
