Dissolving Hydrolyzed Silk Protein (Sericin) Powder
Question
Hello, I ordered Hydrolyzed Silk Protein (Sericin, Powder) to use. I tried dissolving it in distilled water, but it didn't dissolve and remained as powder particles. I tried both stirring and blending. I also tried dissolving it in warm water, and the result was still powder particles. When left overnight, it settled/precipitated in both the warm and cold water mixtures. When I tried rubbing the mixture that had been left overnight on my skin, it didn't dissolve at all and felt like skin scrub particles. Could you please advise on how to dissolve it? Thank you very much.
Answer
How to Dissolve Hydrolyzed Silk Protein (Sericin) Powder
Based on the product description for Hydrolyzed Silk Protein (Sericin, Powder), it is stated that the powder is water-soluble and can be mixed directly into the water phase.
It's possible that the powder requires sufficient time and proper mixing to fully dissolve, especially since it's a natural protein powder. While you've tried stirring and blending in warm water, sometimes gentle, sustained mixing and adequate time are needed for the particles to fully hydrate and disperse.
Here's a suggested approach to try dissolving it:
- Add the Hydrolyzed Silk Protein powder directly to the water phase (like distilled water).
- Stir continuously for several minutes.
- If using warm water, maintain a gentle temperature and continue stirring. Avoid boiling water, as high heat can sometimes affect proteins.
- Allow the mixture to sit for a period, stirring occasionally, to give the powder time to fully hydrate and dissolve.
- Ensure the concentration you are trying to dissolve is within the recommended usage rate (0.1-1%). Trying to dissolve a much higher concentration might be difficult.
It should eventually dissolve into a clear or slightly hazy solution, not remain as gritty particles. If after trying this method with sufficient time and stirring it still doesn't dissolve, there might be an issue, but typically, adding to the water phase with stirring and patience should work for a water-soluble powder like this.
