Answer

DIY Firming Body Oil Formula (Inspired by Clarins Tonic)

Based on the ingredient list you provided and the recommendations from our staff, here is a suggested formula for a firming body oil you can make yourself.

This formula consists of a carrier oil base, essential oils for their therapeutic properties and scent, and additional fragrance components.

Ingredients:

  • Carrier Oil (approximately 95%):
You can use either Jojoba Oil or Sweet Almond Oil as the base oil. Our staff recommends around 95% of the total formula.
  • Essential Oils (approximately 3-4% total):
    • Geranium Oil: 0.5 - 1%
    • Rosewood Oil: 0.5 - 1%
    • Corn Mint Oil: 0.5 - 1%
    • Note: Rosemary Leaf Oil was in the original list, but a suitable product was not found in our database.
  • Fragrance Components (approximately 1-2% total):

    • Linalool: 0.1 - 0.5%
    • Citronellol: 0.1 - 0.5%
    • Geraniol: 0.1 - 0.5%
    • Limonene: 0.1 - 0.5%
    • Citral: 0.1 - 0.5%
  • Benzyl Benzoate is listed in the original product but is typically used as a preservative or solvent and is not necessary for a simple oil blend for personal use.

Instructions:

  1. Measure the desired amount of your chosen carrier oil (Jojoba Oil or Sweet Almond Oil) into a clean bottle.
  2. Carefully add the essential oils and fragrance components according to the suggested percentages. Start with the lower end of the range and adjust based on your preference for scent, ensuring the total essential oil concentration remains safe for skin application (generally below 3% for essential oils in a body oil, but the staff's ranges for individual oils are provided). The total of all essential oils and fragrance components should be around 5%.
  3. Close the bottle and gently shake to mix the ingredients thoroughly.

Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin before applying the oil generously, especially if you have sensitive skin or are new to using essential oils.

Update as of 2026-05-24

Current catalog information has changed from the original answer. Rosemary Oil (Leaf) is now listed, so it may be used if you want the blend to follow the original ingredient list more closely. A hazelnut-related oil is also listed, but its INCI should be checked before treating it as the same material as Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil.

For a leave-on body oil, use the carrier oil as the main phase, about 95–98% of the formula, such as Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, or another suitable skin-feel carrier oil. Start the combined essential oils/aroma chemicals much lower, around 1–2% total, then adjust only after a small test batch and patch test. Do not use every essential oil and fragrance component at the maximum level at the same time, because the combined aromatic load can become too high for leave-on body use.

Corn Mint Oil should be kept especially low because its menthol-like cooling effect may irritate sensitive skin. Linalool, Limonene, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, and Benzyl Benzoate are fragrance allergens; keep the fragrance load conservative and check the applicable labeling/safety rules if making the product for sale.

Benzyl Benzoate is not required as a preservative in this anhydrous oil blend because there is no water phase. It may be used only if needed as part of the scent system or as a fragrance solvent/fixative, and only within appropriate safety limits. Store the finished oil tightly closed, protected from light, heat, and air.
