Question

Could you please provide a do-it-yourself (DIY) formula for a keratin hair mask specifically for damaged hair? I am looking for a recipe that I can make and use at home to help restore my hair.

Answer

Simple DIY Keratin Hair Mask Formula

For damaged hair, using keratin can help restore hair to be strong, soft, moisturized, and shiny. You can easily make your own keratin hair mask treatment using Hydrolyzed Keratin ingredients, which are keratins processed into smaller sizes that can penetrate the hair well.

How to Make and Use:

  1. Choose a liquid Hydrolyzed Keratin like Pure Keratin™ (Natural, Australian Sheep Wool) or Hydrolyzed Keratin (Liquid, Deodorized), or the powder form Hydrolyzed Keratin (Powder).
  2. Mix the Hydrolyzed Keratin at the recommended ratio:
    • For rinse-off treatments (used like a conditioner or hair mask): Use about 1.0-2.0% Hydrolyzed Keratin of the total formula weight. You can mix it with a ready-made conditioner or a hair mask base.
    • For leave-on treatments: Use about 2.0-4.0% Hydrolyzed Keratin of the total formula weight. Mix with water or a serum/spray base for hair nourishment.
  3. Stir well to combine.
  4. After shampooing, towel-dry your hair until damp, then apply the keratin treatment thoroughly, focusing on dry and damaged ends.
  5. Leave it on for the desired time (e.g., 15-30 minutes for rinse-off, or leave on for leave-on).
  6. Rinse thoroughly (for rinse-off type).

Some types of keratin, such as KeraQuat™, are positively charged keratins that adhere well to hair, suitable for formulas requiring special adherence even in rinse-off products.

Regular use of keratin can help damaged hair regain its health.
